Varying tube types can affect your tires' handling characteristics: the Standard tube, available in all dimensions is the best choice for everyday cycling whilst Light & Supersonic varieties give racers the option of lower rotating weight, therefore increasing speed. The lightweight tubes have a lower thickness and it is imperative that inflation pressures are maintained to prevent the risk of pinch flats. For worry-free cycling, we recommend the Hermetic Plus tube. Its improved formula is lighter and more compact, which renders it very puncture resistant due to the the presence of higher butyl amounts and greater wall thickness. Since it retains air longer, it's a favourite among bicycle rental agencies. Our Freeride and Downhill tubes are especially strong and bulky, which make them our favourites, since their extra wall thickness effectively protects against punctures.
The valve nut is used to affix the valve in the wheel rim and keeps the valve in position during pumping. But it is not completely necessary. If you use a valve nut, only tighten this slightly by hand. Do not user pliers or a similar tool because this might damage the tube.
We cannot recommend one specific valve. It is important however to ensure that you choose a valve that matches the rim borehole to prevent e.g. valve tears. Three valve systems have established themselves: the classic bicycle valve (Dunlop), the car-valve (Schrader) and the Presta valve (Sclaverand). The narrow Presta valve is particularly well suited for racing bikes.
If a valve nut is used, turn this back and slight press to open the valve (applies to Presta valves). Check the valve for apparent damage. It may be that the pump is faulty. Ensure that the valve is at the 12 o'clock Position.
Tire movement may cause slanted valves which can be prevented in the first instance by a higher air pressure. Therefore check the operating pressure and the seating of the tires at regular intervals. Tires may slip along the wheel rim during braking, especially on mountain bikes. If using disk brakes, tire movement is less prevalent because the brakes and wheel rims have no direct contact. Tire movement on tubeless tires has no Impact.
